Carmela's Corner: 1/21

To those who checked us out last week, Welcome back. For those who are new here, Welcome! I am Carmela Rea, founder and CEO of EggFund. My mission in starting EggFund was to help hopeful parents afford to build the families of their dreams. Part of that mission is to ensure you have access to the latest news about assisted reproductive technologies, financial wellness, fertility, and more. So each Friday, I am going to pop into my little corner of the internet and share a few links I found helpful or interesting that week. Here’s what I thought worth your time from this week:

Fempower Podcast

January is Thyroid Awareness Month, a recognition that I feel gets lost in the shuffle of New Years and the excitement (or dread) surrounding Valentine’s Day. However, for those experiencing infertility - especially unexplained infertility - knowing about thyroid related issues and how they can impact your fertility is very important. On this episode of Fempower, host Georgie chats with co-founder, owner and operator of ThyroidChange about why thyroid conditions can be hard to diagnose, what types of tests you should ask for and more!

New Data Model Reveals Novel Infertility Treatment Recommendations (University of Minnesota)

This article is a bit dense, but definitely worth a look especially to those with PCOS. The innovative modeling highlighted novel infertility treatment options that may help those suffering with PCOS have healthy, successful pregnancies.

Is the E.R.A Test Worth the Money? (NY Times)

This fascinating article takes a look at recent studies into the Endometrial Receptivity Analysis (E.R.A) a test that is supposed to help doctors decide when is the best time for an embryo transfer. It’s a rather expensive add on, but many have questioned if it is effective for first-time IVF patients, with some studies already showing that the cost is not worth the results.

As always, if you are interested in learning more about EggFund or our financing options to help afford your family, you can do so here.
